India veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his sudden retirement after the third Test match between India and Australia. Ashwin who was part of Rohit Sharma-led Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 squad was featured in the second Test match which was a pink-ball day-night clash played in Adelaide.
Ashwin ended his cricketing career as India's second-highest wicket-taker picking 765 wickets in his international career. Anil Kumble tops the tally with 953 scalps. Congress MP Vijay Vasanth took to his official social media handle and urged the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya to felicitate Ashwin with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
"I have written to the Hon'ble @mansukhmandviya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, requesting that R. Ashwin be conferred with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. His exceptional contributions to Indian cricket and remarkable achievements on the field make him truly deserving of this honour," Vijay Vasanth wrote in a post on X.

Ashwin is the seventh-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket history and the second-highest for India, behind Anil Kumble (619). He also has the second-most five-wicket hauls in Tests, after Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan (67).
Ashwin was part of India's 2011 ODI World Cup winning squad and the spin great was also part of the 2013 Champions Trophy team. Ashwin will now be seen featuring for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
