A former county cricket coach has been suspended from the sport for nine months after admitting to serious charges of sexual misconduct. The Cricket Regulator announced that the independent Cricket Discipline Panel (CDP) handed down the suspension following an investigation into inappropriate behavior within the sport. The coach, who has not been named, admitted to five breaches of the sport's professional conduct regulations. The coach will serve six months of the ban immediately, with the remaining three months suspended. In addition to the suspension, he has been ordered to complete a mandatory education course.

County coach banned for sending sexual photos to female colleagues

The misconduct occurred during the summers of 2023 and 2024 and involved the coach sending unsolicited sexual images to two junior female colleagues. The disciplinary panel's report also detailed a disturbing incident where the coach attempted to kiss one of the complainants in a club dressing room. One of the women involved was significantly younger and held a junior position. The panel chose not to reveal the coach's identity due to exceptional health-related reasons and concerns that doing so could put him at serious risk of harm.

As a direct result of his actions, the coach was removed from his position and has not been involved in the sport since. The nine-month ban he received includes six months that are backdated to when the charges were first filed, with the remaining three months suspended. He is also required to complete a mandatory educational course as part of his disciplinary action.

In his submissions to the panel, the coach expressed remorse for his behavior and stated that he has taken steps to understand the harm he caused. According to the report, he worked with a former professional sportswoman and completed an educational program focused on workplace boundaries, social media misuse, and sexual harassment. The coach also acknowledged the courage of the women who came forward. Meanwhile, Chris Haward, the managing director of the Cricket Regulator, condemned the coach's behavior, underscoring the seriousness of the misconduct.

"This kind of conduct is unacceptable. Where such instances are identified they will be investigated and those responsible will be held to account. Removing sexual misconduct from the game is a priority for the cricket regulator. We recognise that it takes a lot of courage for those impacted to come forward. We are committed to investigating thoroughly and expeditiously when allegations are raised with us, whether current or in the past," Chris Haward said as quoted by BBC Sport.
