Pakistan cricketer Yasir Shah has been found innocent in the alleged rape case of a minor girl. The case was filed at the back end of 2020 when Yasir's friend was involved in a criminal act of raping a minor girl at gun-point. Although, not directly involved, Yasir was alleged to have helped his friend by harassing the girl. After a month's investigation and hearing in the court, Yasir has now been cleared of the charge.

The FIR was filed at Islamabad's Shalimar police station in December 2020 under sections 292-B and 292-C and 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The charges included child pornography and rape-related activities. However, the investigation has proven that Yasir was not involved in any of such activities and was cleared of the charge.

“The victim admitted that Yasir Shah‘s name was included in the FIR due to misrepresentation,” a supplementary report by Islamabad police read.

“Yasir Shah has nothing to do with the alleged rape case,” police said after investigation.

The FIR report included the following statement where the victim had alleged, “When I approached Yasir on WhatsApp and told him about the incident, he made fun of me and said that he likes underage girls. Yasir Shah said that he was a very influential person and that he knew a high-ranking official […] Yasir Shah and Farhan make videos and rape underage girls”.

The 35-year-old leg-spinner can now look forward to making a return to the team, as he last played for the national side in August 2021, which Pakistan lost by one wicket against West Indies. In 46 Test matches, he has scalped 235 wickets with best figures of 41/8 against New Zealand in November 2018 in Dubai. He also has 24 wickets in 25 ODI matches for the national side.
