England's James Bracey on August 13 (Sunday) became the second batter after India's Prithvi Shaw to smack a double century in the ongoing One-Day Cup competition. Bracey, who is the captain of Gloucestershire, opened the innings and carried his bat after scoring an unbeaten 224 runs off 151 balls during the match against Somerset in Bristol. The left-handed batter smacked a total of 35 boundaries (30 fours and five sixes) and helped his team to post a mammoth total of 454/3 in 50 overs.

It was a record-shattering day for Bracey and Gloucestershire as new milestones were created and old ones were left behind. Bracey's 224-knock is the highest by a Gloucestershire batter in List A cricket. It was also the 11th-highest score by a batter in List A cricket history. On the back of Bracey's historic knock, Gloucestershire posted their highest total in List A cricket.

Bracey first registered a 105-run alliance with his opening partner Chris Dent, who scored 65 runs off 38 balls. Bracey then stitched a 213-run partnership with Oliver Price, who scored 77 runs off 83 balls. Harry Tector (37 runs off 17 balls) and Graeme van Buuren (35 not out off 12 balls) played fantastic cameos as well.

For Somerset, all bowlers endured a tough outing in Bristol and James Langridge was the one who leaked the most runs. In eight overs, Langridge conceded 95 runs and bagged one wicket.

Prithvi Shaw double century

India's flamboyant batter Shaw etched his name in the annals of cricket history as he earlier cracked a spellbinding double century for Northamptonshire during the match against Somerset at the County Ground in Northampton on Wednesday, August 9.

In only his third match for Northamptonshire, the star opener notched his maiden One-Day Cup century which came off in 81 balls. He then accelerated to smoke an incredible double hundred. Talking about the match, Shaw cracked a jaw-dropping 244 off 153 balls decorated with 28 fours and 11 sixes to help Northamptonshire post a monstrous total of 415/8.

Shaw took just 129 balls to accomplish his double ton, which was studded with 24 boundaries and eight maximums. Shaw had previously registered a double century for Mumbai during the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored an unbeaten 227 against Puducherry, the highest individual score in the tournament.

The 23-year-old scripted umpteen List A records riding on his dazzling double ton, marking his first in this format since his score of 165 for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in March 2021. Notably, in his 56 List A appearances, Shaw has accumulated over 2800 runs, boasting an average over 50 with 20 scores exceeding fifty. In his debut match for Northamptonshire against Gloucestershire last week, Shaw was hit-wicket after making 34 runs.
