India's Test series against England later this year might not include Rohit Sharma. Following his lackluster performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian captain has chosen not to participate in the forthcoming series, according to sources who spoke to India Today. Virat Kohli is most likely to keep his place in the Test lineup, according to sources. Both Rohit and Kohli had a rough experience in Australia, and Rohit chose not to play in the New Year's Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
When India was led by Jasprit Bumrah in the first Test match at Perth Stadium, Rohit did not play. However, Rohit has had trouble scoring runs in Test matches since making a comeback for the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval. Rohit only managed to score 31 runs at an average of 6.20 in three games. Rumors of the seasoned batter's retirement also circulated when he chose not to participate in the Sydney Test. Rohit, nevertheless, stated that he had no plans to leave Test cricket.

"This is not a decision of retirement. I am not moving away from this game. But I took a decision to step away from this game because I was not able to score runs with the bat. There is no guarantee that I will score runs 2 months or 5 months from now,” Rohit had told Star Sports.
“I have seen a lot of cricket, every minute, every second and everyday life changes. I believe that things will change, but at the same time, I have to be realistic as well. People sitting in the commentary box, or writing with a laptop in their hands, will not decide how my life goes," Rohit added.
In contrast, Virat was unable to score a significant amount of runs outside of the second innings in the Perth Test, although he did hit a hundred. In the Ranji Trophy, Rohit and Virat made their comebacks but were unable to score a significant amount of runs. But after assisting India in winning the Champions Trophy in Dubai, Rohit and Virat reconciled.
While Virat contributed with blows of 100 not out and 84 against Australia and Pakistan, respectively, Rohit delivered the game-winning 76 in the final. The first Test match of India's visit to England is scheduled on June 20 at Leeds' Headingley. The remaining four Test matches will be held at Edgbaston, Lord's, Old Trafford, and Kennington Oval.
