Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik is usually a safe bet for captains in middle overs. The off-spinner gets through his overs quickly and often gets key wickets. But, in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) clash between Fortune Barishal and Khulna Tigers, he disappointed the captain with the ball bowling not one but three no balls in a single over.
Tamim Iqbal decided to introduce Malik during the powerplay overs. On the first ball, Anamul Haque took a single. Then Evin Lewis hit him for a boundary. After three balls, Malik had conceded five runs from three balls. But then Malik overstepped. However, he managed to follow it up with a dot ball. On the fifth ball, Lewis survived as the fielder collected the ball on the bounce.
Malik had conceded just five runs from five balls. He just needed to finish well but could not. He overstepped again but no run was scored of it. On the free hit delivery, Lewis finally managed to find the boundary. The misery was not over for Malik as he overstepped again. On the last ball of the over, Lewis launched a massive six over long-off. The Pakistani all-rounder conceded 18 runs from the over. Khulna Tigers crossed the fifty-run mark in just four overs in the run chase of 188.

Lewis went on to hit five sixes and as many fours in his 22-ball 53 before losing his wicket to Mohammad Imran. Afif Hossain scored 41 from 36 balls while skipper Haque anchored the innings. A wicket in the 16th over for Imran turned out to be a consolation. In the slog overs, wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope finished the game with a 10-ball 25 cameo. Haque remained unbeaten for 63 runs from 44 balls. Malik was not given another over by Iqbal. Sri Lanka's left-arm spinner was most economical as he conceded 17 runs from four overs.
Earlier, Haque won the toss and opted to field first. Mushfiqur Rahim's unbeaten 39-ball 68 helped Fortune Barishal post 187/4. Malik could not do much damage in the slog overs with the bat. He managed to score just five runs from six balls.
