India’s T20 World Cup 2026-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav’s Triumphs Knights MNE bowed out of T20 Mumbai 2026 with a 24-run loss to Shardul Thakur-led Eagle Thane Strikers on June 9. Suryakumar couldn't convert the start into a big score as Knights were bowled out for 148 in the run chase of 173, suffering their fourth defeat in the season leading to exit from semi-final race.

Suryakumar won the toss and opted to bowl first in must-win clash. Strikers' top-order crumbled as in-form Sylvester DSouza struck twice. Sairaj Patil came to rescue with a 46-ball 69 laced with five fours and four sixes. Later, wicketkeeper Shashwat Jagtap's 10-ball 29 cameo took Strikers to 172/8.
In the run chase, Akhil Herwadkar hit Thakur for two sixes and as many fours. Knights lost just one wicket in powerplay overs and scored 59 runs. In the eighth over, Amartya Raje got rid of Herwadkar and Nutan Goel. Herwadkar fell for a 24-ball 33. Suryakumar tried to get the run chase back on track with Sagar Mishra. In the 12th over Mishra fell to Siddhant Singh. Suryakumar was looking to attack when Anuj Giri knocked him over for a 16-ball 20 in the 14th over. Parikshit Valsangakar lacked support from the other end. He was dismissed by Giri for a 22-ball 33 in the 18th over. In the penultimate over, Knights lost two wickets and were bowled out for 148.

Iyer falls cheaply too in run chase
Earlier in the day, India’s new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer had a forgettable outing. SoBo Mumbai Falcons were taken to the cleaners. Aakash Tigers MWS' Sarfaraz Khan and Jay Gokul Bista went on a rampage. They got to the 50-run mark in just three overs. In the fourth over, Sarfaraz hit Prathamesh Dake for three fours and a six before falling for a 10-ball 31. Bista reached his fifty from 22 balls and lost his wicket in the eighth over for a 27-ball 57. Varun Lavande played second fiddle to Ajit Yadav who wreaked havoc. He completed his half-century from just 25 balls. His 35-ball 68 took Aakash Tigers MWS to 227/5.
In the run chase, Ishan Mulchandani went ballistic with five sixes and a four in his 15-ball 40. But, Shashank Attarde pushed Falcons on back foot with three wickets in powerplay overs. Iyer couldn't do much against him other than a six and lost his wicket to the spinner in the eighth over. Harsh Aghav scored 43 runs from 36 balls but it wasn't enough to revive the run chase. Falcons were bowled out for 161 in 17.5 overs. They lost the match by 66 runs. Attarde starred with a four-fer and won 'Player of the match' award.
Iyer’s Falcons still alive in semifinal race
While the defeat affected Falcons' net run rate (NRR), they are not out of semifinal race. On June 10, Falcons go up against North Mumbai Panthers. A win against the table-toppers will keep them alive in the semifinal race. But, their qualification will depend on the following match between ARCS Andheri and MSC Maratha Royals.
