Hansi Flick has confirmed that Ferran Torres has made a return to the squad for Barcelona's UEFA Champions League game against Copenhagen. The Spanish sat out the last two matches after being substituted in the second half of the league game against Real Sociedad.
Good news for Barcelona
As per Diario AS, he suffered a muscular injury and was left out of the matchday squad against Slavia Prague and Real Oviedo.
Interacting with the media ahead of the UCL game against Copenhagen, Flick revealed that the forward is perfectly fit and available for selection against the Danish side.
“He’s fine, he looks good. He’s ready for tomorrow. I’m happy that he’s recovered so quickly,” he said.
Tough task for Barcelona
Flick will be happy to have the former Manchester City player back as Barcelona are locked in a tough task to finish in the top eight in the league phase of the Champions League.
Ahead of the final league game, the LaLiga giants sit ninth in the table, but have gathered the same number of points (13) as Paris Saint Germain, Newcastle United, and Chelsea, who stand at sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
Sweet headache for Hansi Flick
Flick will now have to choose between Torres and Robert Lewandowski for a place in the starting XI. Torres has been a key part of Flick's team this season, amassing 15 goals across all competitions.
Hansi Flick admits main objective ahead of UCL clash vs Copenhagen
Flick admitted that his team's main target is to claim direct qualification for the Champions League round of 16. So far, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are the only teams confirmed to have secured their berths in the last 16.
“I hope the team feels good and confident,” Flick continued. “We have to respect Copenhagen. The most important thing is that we do our job, and we'll have to play at our best. It won't be an easy match. The goal is to qualify in the top eight.
He added:
“We're focused on our own game, on what's at hand. We have a tough match against Copenhagen. We won't make excuses, and we're eager and confident. We're confident in our style, in how we play. This is the Champions League, and it's about reaching our full potential.”
The German coach will aim to guide Barcelona to their first UCL title this season after guiding them to the semi-finals in the previous campaign.
