Paris Saint-Germain took an important step toward the UEFA Champions League semi-finals with a dominant 2-0 victory over Liverpool in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

All thanks to goals from Désiré Doué in the 11th minute and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the 65th minute, which handed the French champions a clean sheet and a healthy advantage heading into the return leg at Anfield next Tuesday.

PSG controlled the match from the outset, outshooting a Liverpool side that struggled to create meaningful chances, especially with Mohamed Salah absent from the starting lineup. Doué opened the scoring early with a clinical finish, while Kvaratskhelia added a second after a strong individual effort assisted by Joao Neves.

The home team wasted several opportunities to extend their lead, and supporters voiced frustration over two potential penalties involving Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate that were not awarded.

Meanwhile, the result leaves the Reds with a steep uphill battle in the second leg, where Arne Slot’s side will need to overturn the deficit without the benefit of an away goals rule.

PSG, showing a strong defensive squad and attacking flair under manager Luis Enrique, will look to finish the job on Merseyside and advance further in their bid for European glory to defend the title.
