India will take on New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final which is slated to be played at the Dubai International stadium on March 9. Both teams have showcased exceptional form throughout the tournament, setting the stage for a compelling final. Notably, they both competed in Group A, where India maintained an undefeated record against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. On the other hand, New Zealand suffered their sole group stage loss against India. This final marks the second encounter between the two teams in the tournament. In the lead-up to this highly anticipated match, India vice captain Shubman Gill recalled the learning from India's ODI World Cup final loss. He reflected on his inability to make an impact during that critical juncture for the Indian team. Gill acknowledged his shortcomings and talked about the valuable lessons he learned, focusing on how he can apply those learnings to improve his performance in the upcoming Champions Trophy final.

"Obviously some nerves in that match (2023 final). (I learned) a lot of things. It was my first ICC Final … I was very excited. (It felt like) I was losing time to dominate in that game. I think in big ICC knockout matches, you can give yourself a little bit more time than you think,” Gill said in the pre-match press conference.

"We lost (the World Cup Final) in ‘23 and then won in the T20 World Cup (in 2024). So I think we have got good momentum going with us in this tournament. It's going to be a really exciting game for us and definitely, if we are able to win this one, I think it would be a great way to end this format this year,” he added.

Despite the setback of losing the 2023 World Cup final, Team India displayed remarkable resilience making a stunning comeback and claiming the T20 World Cup 2024 title.

Gill knows how big an opportunity this is for him to help India win the Champions Trophy final.

“It’s a very big opportunity for us and in general, in any ICC tournament or any ICC event that happens, we have a lot of responsibility, a lot of pressure from our fans. And the last two ICC tournaments that we have played, we went on to (make the Final),” Gill concluded.
