Aaron Finch was all praises for his key players after Australia added the elusive T20 World Cup trophy in their cabinet. Finch pointed out his opening partner’s contribution in Australia’s turnaround and took a dig at critics who “wrote him off” just because of a slump in form.

“This is huge. To be the first Australian team to be able to do it. So proud. We knew our backs were against the wall. We had some great individual performances, some great team performances. Can't believe people wrote him off saying he was done (Warner). That's when he plays his best cricket. Was almost like poking the bear,” Finch said in the post-match presentation.

Warner finished the tournament with three half-centuries and 289 runs to his name from seven appearances. The southpaw scored a half-century in the final to help Australia recover from early wicket of Finch. He won the ‘Player of the tournament’ for his impact in Australia’s turnaround.

The Australian captain also lauded leg-spinner Adam Zampa and ‘player of the match’ Mitchell Marsh for his unbeaten 77 and a good run in the tournament. He lauded Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis too for their heroics in the semi-final run chase against Pakistan.

“The player of the tournament for me (Zampa). Mitch Marsh - what a way to start his innings today. Wade coming into this game with an injury cloud but got a job done. Stoinis did the business,” Finch added.

Warner’s teammate and former skipper Steve Smith also lauded Warner and pointed out the “writing off” part after his dismal show in second phase of Indian Premier League (IPL) and lack of form in the warm-up games.

Warner also surpassed Mathew Hayden’s 14-year-old record of most runs in a single edition of the mega event by an Australian batter.
