Ravindra Jadeja was on top of his game both on and off-the-field on November 6. After bagging the ‘player of the match’ award for his three-wicket spell against Scotland, Jadeja was sent to the post-match press conference. On being asked what will India to if New Zealand beat Afghanistan in their next game, Jadeja replied by saying, “Toh phir bag pack karke ghar jayenge, aur kya (Then, we will pack our bags and go home, what else)”.
After the big win over Scotland, India got their net run rate (NRR) over every other team in Group 2. However, their semi-final hopes hang on a thread as it is dependent on Afghanistan beating New Zealand in their last group stage game. Even if Afghanistan win by a big margin, India will have their work cut out on November 8 to improve their NRR against Namibia.
Unlike Jadeja said in the post-match press conference, India will not pack their bags immediately as they will have to play in the dead rubber against Namibia the next day.
Earlier, the left-arm spinner took three wickets for 15 runs in his quota of four overs. He got two wickets in the seventh over to push Scotland on the back foot and bundle them out for 85 which was later chased by India in just 6.3 overs. This was India’s biggest T20I win in terms of balls remaining (81 balls).
In the post-match presentation, the all-rounder was content with the way he bowled against Scotland as the 32-year-old said, “I was enjoying bowling on this track today. The odd ball was turning, I was enjoying very much. The first one (Berrington's wicket) was a special one, whenever you get a batsman out with a turning ball, that's always special.”
