Arjun Tendulkar has been ruled out for the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season due to injury, Mumbai Indians (MI) announced the news on September 29. The franchise named right-arm pacer Simarjeet Singh as his replacement in the squad for the rest of season.
“Mumbai Indians have added Simarjeet Singh as an injury replacement to Arjun Tendulkar for the remainder of their IPL 2021 season. The right-arm medium-fast bowler has started training with the team after completing the mandatory quarantine as per IPL guidelines,” the franchise said in a statement.
Arjun was roped in for the base price of Rs 20 lakh in the auction by the five-time IPL champions. The southpaw is yet to make his IPL debut.
Simarjeet’s records
The 23-year-old has 18 wickets from 15 matches at an average of 20.50 in the format and an economy rate of 7.76. However, it is unlikely that he will make his IPL debut this season. The right-arm pacer was one of the net bowlers on India’s tour of Sri Lanka which included three ODIs and three T20Is. After a Covid-19 outbreak in Indian contingent, India were forced to choose from one of the net bowlers which resulted in Sandeep Warrier making his T20I debut.
MI’s position in IPL 2021
With a win against Punjab Kings on September 28, MI put an end to their losing streak and climbed to the fifth position on the points table. MI have won five out of their 11 games and need to win their remaining matches to assure a place in playoffs.
