Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named Mark Wood's replacement for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. Australian pacer Andrew Tye will join the squad but is unlikely to be available for the first few games.
Tye has been roped in for his base price of Rs 1 crore by the new Lucknow-based franchise. Tye made his IPL debut in 2017 for now-defunct Gujarat Lions (GL). The Australian pacer made an impressive debut as he picked up five wickets including a hat-trick against now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS).
Tye has taken 40 wickets from 27 games he has played so far. In 2017, he took 12 wickets from six games in his debut season. The 35-year-old’s best season was in 2018 when he won the purple cap after taking 24 wickets from 14 games at an average of 18.66.
Earlier Wood was roped in for a whopping Rs 7.5 crore by LSG in the mega auction. After Wood pulled out of the IPL 2022 due to injury, the KL Rahul-led LSG also added Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani to their camp. However, the Zimbabwean pacer is likely to be part of the LSG franchise as their net bowler.
LSG will begin their IPL campaign against Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
LSG updated squad: KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, Ravi Bishnoi, Quinton de Kock, Deepak Hooda, Manish Pandey, Krunal Pandya, Jason Holder, Andrew Tye, Avesh Khan, Ankit Rajput, K Gowtham, Dushmantha Chameera, Shahbaz Nadeem, Manan Vohra, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Karan Sharma, Evin Lewis, Mayank Yadav, Kyle Mayers
