Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Ajinkya Rahane has been fined 12 per cent of his match fee for maintaining slow over rate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on April 14.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Rahane was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the IPL statement read.

Rahane struggles in run chase
Meanwhile, KKR's winless run at the IPL 2026 continued. They lost to CSK by 32 runs, chasing a target of 193. Rahane struggled to score freely in the run chase. He managed to score 28 runs from 22 balls. He got out to left-arm chinaman bowler Noor Ahmad trying to hit the ball for a six.
KKR stay at bottom
KKR now sit at the bottom of the points table with four losses from five games. Their game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was washed out due to rain. Their net run rate (NRR) has dropped to negative 1.383. Meanwhile, CSK climbed one spot with their second win on the trot.
Rahane to make changes
Rahane was asked whether the team combination they opted for was right considering the conditions. He confirmed that there will be changes made as KKR face an uphill battle to keep playoffs chances alive.
“I think combination-wise, we thought, the combination which we had last game and this was really good. I think it's tough at the moment. Yes, we're not winning matches, it's tough. What is important for all of us as a group to stay positive, keep our head up, keep our chin up, just focus on the moment. Yes, we'll have to sit in the dressing room, think about the combinations. We'll have to make any changes. Sometimes you back the players, if the results are going your way, then it's okay. But if the results are not going your way, then you'll have to think about the combination. But apart from that, I thought it's all about being positive and keep our heads up,” Rahane said in the post-match presentation.
KKR will now travel to Ahmedabad where they will face Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 17.
