Yashasvi Jaiswal

Rajasthan Royals' Yashasvi Jaiswal reacts after his dismissal during the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket match against Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on April 5, 2025.

Highlights:

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his first fifty of IPL 2025 against PBKS.

Jaiswal has requested for NOC to move from Mumbai to Goa.

Jaiswal last played for Mumbai earlier this year.

Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal regained his form with a 45-ball 67 for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 6. Jaiswal recently made headlines when he sought NOC letter from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to move to Goa. After Jaiswal's first fifty in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, former India batter Wasim Jaffer said that the young batter shouldn't look to play in Ranji Trophy. Instead, he wants the left-handed batter to focus on playing all three formats for India.

"He shouldn't be looking to play Ranji Trophy. For somebody like him, he should be playing for India in all three formats. That should be his focus," Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.

"I'm sure it [the move] is playing on his mind. Because that has been happening in this week or two. But yes, runs from him is very, very vital for Rajasthan Royals. He's looking a little bit off-colour; trying too hard, trying too hard, too early."

Jaffer was 'shocked' at Jaiswal's move

Jaffer who has represented Mumbai admitted that he was shocked when he learned about Jaiswal's decision. Jaffer who moved to Vidarbha later is surprised that the decision came so soon.

"No matter what Goa was offering him. You don't leave Mumbai, especially at this age [23]. It's okay if somebody is 34-35 then you want to go out," the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter said.

"That must have prompted him to take this decision, but I think leaving Mumbai is a shocking decision. He's a powerhouse. Somebody who has played from Under-14s to now, for Mumbai, and Goa being a plate-group team that has just come into the elite group - for him to go and play there, whatever time he will spend on first-class cricket, I am surprised he's taken that decision so soon," he added.

Jaiswal's half-century helped RR post a target of 206 against Punjab Kings (PBKS). RR became the first team to beat PBKS in the season. PBKS fell short of the target by 51 runs. Before the half-century, Jaiswal had scored 34 runs from three innings including two single-digit scores. He will be seen in action again when RR travel to Ahmedabad to face Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 9.
