Krishna has 19 wickets from 10 games.

Krishna is the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2025.

Gujarat Titans' (GT) Prasidh Krishna is leading the purple cap race in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Krishna is not only the prime wicket-taker but his economy rate of 7.48 runs per over is best among top five wicket-takers of the season. In a high-scoring match at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on May 2, he conceded just 19 runs from his quota of two overs and claimed a couple of wickets. He was adjudged 'Player of the match' and revealed that he has a red ball in his room but is yet to practice with it for the England tour.

"I have a red ball in my room, playing around with it. Didn't get it to the ground. Looking to take this tournament first and then look at what's coming later," Krishna said in the post-match presentation.

Krishna was a part of India's squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. The 29-year-old made his Test comeback for the fifth and final Test of the series at Sydney Cricket Ground. He picked up three wickets each in both innings but India ended up losing the SCG Test by six wickets in the absence of an injured Jasprit Bumrah.

So far, Krishna has played three Tests and claimed eight wickets. He has been in and out of the side due to injuries. Considering the pace-friendly conditions and his current form, he is likely to be selected for the five-Test series on England soil which will kickstart India's World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.

Krishna on getting purple cap and his preparation

On May 2, Krishna dismissed dangerous Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen. Defending a target of 224, he did not let a rampant Abhishek Sharma overpower him. So far, he has taken 19 wickets from 10 games at an average of 15.36.

"Purple cap doesn't feel any different. Winning was key. We've had two long breaks. Getting a win at home was important. My control over length has been good. Lots of support from the team to get where I am now," Krishna said.

Krishna opened up about his preparation and how talking with experienced players in the GT squad helps him hit the right areas.

"Preparation would start with controlling what I can in the nets. Do what I'd do during the game. On game day, you watch every ball of the first innings if you're bowling second. Take all that you can. Then have chats with the experienced players around, then hit the right areas and take it from there," he added.

Two other pacers who will challenge Krishna for the purple cap are Royal Challengers Bnegaluru's (RCB) Josh Hazlewood (18 wickets) and Mumbai Indians' (MI) Trent Boult (16 wickets).

Currently, GT are placed second on the points table with seven wins from 10 games. Their next match is against MI on May 6 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
