Pace maestro Jasprit Bumrah scripted history with his fiery four-wicket which helped Mumbai Indians (MI) crush Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the Wankhede stadium on April 27. Bumrah thus became the highest wicket-taker for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. During the clash against LSG, Bumrah delivered the third over, and on the fourth ball, he dismissed Aiden Markram. The South African T20I captain attempted a big shot but was caught by Naman Dhir for a score of nine runs off eleven deliveries. This dismissal of Markram marked Bumrah's 171st wicket in the lucrative franchise cricket league while representing MI, allowing him to surpass the previous record of 170 wickets held by Lasith Malinga. Over his decade-long tenure with MI in the IPL, Lasith Malinga played 122 matches and accounted for 170 dismissals. In comparison, Jasprit Bumrah has now accumulated 174 wickets in 139 matches for the same franchise.

Bumrah's journey in the IPL kicked off in 2013, when he made his debut for Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. In his inaugural match, he delivered an impressive performance, securing three wickets for 32 runs in his four overs. Notably, his maiden IPL wicket was the prized scalp of Virat Kohli, whom he trapped leg-before-wicket. Bumrah also holds the distinction of having taken two five-wicket hauls in his IPL career, a feat he shares with only one other bowler in the league's history. In the current IPL season, Bumrah was sidelined for the initial four matches due to a lower back injury. He made his highly anticipated return in the fifth league match against RCB, at the Wankhede Stadium. However, in that particular game, he went wicketless in his allotted four overs.
Bumrah will next be seen in MI's next match against Rajasthan Royals on May 1 at the Sawai Man Singh stadium
