Ayush Mhatre injury update: Chennai Super Kings’ young batter Ayush Mhatre was ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to a left hamstring injury suffered during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 18. While Mhatre’s hamstring injury in left leg was evident. He batted on despite injury and needed help to get off the field when he lost his wicket. A couple of weeks later, it has come to light that Mhatre has suffered a wrist injury as well.
“Ayush not only has a left hamstring injury, but has also been diagnosed with a wrist injury. He is now likely to be out of action for a couple of months,” a source told TOI.

Despite the wrist injury, Mhatre’s rehabilitation period hasn’t changed. Earlier, CSK had revealed the same.
“Ayush's injury will require a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks,” the five-time IPL champions had said in an official statement.

CSK’s injured players and their replacements
A few CSK players have been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries. Nathan Ellis was the first, he was ruled out before the tournament even began. Then, Khaleel Ahmed followed by Mhatre. Young Ramakrishna Ghosh is the latest entrant on the list. He suffered a fracture on his right foot.
CSK have already named Mhatre’s replacement. They have roped in pacer Akash Madhwal. However, CSK have tried Kartik Sharma, Urvil Patel and Sarfaraz Khan at no.3 spot. After a single-digit score against Gujarat Titans (GT), he contributed with a 12-ball 24 cameo against Mumbai Indians (MI).
Spencer Johnson replaced Ellis and is yet to play a game after completing his rehabilitation.
Khaleel and Ghosh’s replacement are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, there is no clarity over MS Dhoni. At first, it was his knee and then a calf injury. Dhoni is yet to play a game this season.
CSK in mid-table logjam, to face DC next
Meanwhile, CSK have made a comeback after a hat-trick of defeats. They have four wins from nine games and are placed sixth on the points table.
The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side will go up against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, on May 5.
