In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, several players have taken chits out of their pocket when they have performed well. Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) Akash Singh is the latest entrant on the list. Akash took out the chit when he took down Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) top-order. It wasn’t the case when he came up against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old smashed him all around the mark. As Akash went for plenty, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar who was in the commentary box, wondered whether the left-arm pacer still has a chit in his pocket.
“Where's the chit now, it's in the pocket right? Where is the chit? I like a bit of humility,” Gavaskar said on commentary during the game. “In an over, you get a wicket in maybe one ball. Five balls you are being clobbered. He has given 48 runs in 17 deliveries."
Many cricketers including Dale Steyn, Ambati Rayudu and Mitchell McClenaghan had criticised the new trend in the IPL 2026 as well asking for a stop to it.

At Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, in his second game of the season, Akash bowled three overs. He opened the bowling, and Yashasvi Jaiswal hit him for a hat-trick of fours. Then, he bowled a wide and sprayed one too wide down the leg side, going for five wides. His over came to an end with another boundary off Jaiswal's bat. He conceded 23 runs off the opening over. The left-arm pacer was brought back into the attack after the powerplay overs. Jaiswal hit him for a four off the second ball. Then, the stand-in RR skipper got out caught behind for a 23-ball 43.
Skipper Rishabh Pant trusted Akash to continue. Sooryavanshi broke the shackles and hit him for two sixes and three overs. In his third over, he went for 26 runs including two wides. He ended up conceding 54 runs from three overs.
Sooryavanshi’s carnage leads RR to win in high-scoring clash
As Akash had a forgettable outing, Sooryavanshi made his memorable. After getting to his half-century from 23 balls, his slowest in the IPL, he went berserk. From 38 deliveries, he scored 93 runs, including seven fours and 10 sixes. He was eventually dismissed by left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan. His knock followed by Dhruv Jurel's patient unbeaten 53 helped RR chase down the target of 221 with seven wickets in hand and five balls to spare.
RR take on step towards playoffs berth
After a win in their last home game of the season, RR stayed afloat in the playoffs race. They are placed fourth on the points table with seven wins from 13 games. If They beat Mumbai Indians (MI) in their next game on May 24 at Wankhede Stadium, they will go through to playoffs. If They don't, they will be dependent on results of other games.
