The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) denied reports that the Champions Trophy final might be moved from Pakistan to Dubai in the event that India advances to the grand finale of the mega tournament. According to the rumours, the PCB is thinking of using a hybrid Champions Trophy concept in which India plays its matches away from home, ideally in Dubai. Given India's ambiguous position on visiting Pakistan for the marquee event, there is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the Champions Trophy.
India has not visited their neighbouring nation since the 2008 Asia Cup. The 2022 Asia Cup was supposed to be held in Pakistan, but the board declined to travel there, citing opposition from the government. As a result, the competition was held in a hybrid format, with some games taking place in Pakistan and other matches—including the final taking place in Sri Lanka.
PCB on the big rumour
A PCB representative refuted rumours that the Champions Trophy final might take place in Dubai, stating that Pakistan is fully prepared to host the entire competition.
"There is absolutely no truth to the reports suggesting that the Champions Trophy final could be moved outside Pakistan. We are working diligently to ensure that all preparations for the tournament are on track, and we are confident that Pakistan will be able to host a memorable event." a PCB spokesperson was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
The tournament is slated to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025, according to a tentative schedule. The tournament's opening match and one of the semi-finals will take place at the National Stadium in Karachi, while seven matches, including the eagerly awaited final on March 9, will take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The remaining five matches and the other semi-final, however, will take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
