Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting will be playing the role of the new head coach of the Punjab Kings franchise. He was previously with Delhi Capitals in the same role but parted ways with DC just over two months ago after spending seven years with them. His appointment has come before the beginning of the retention process and the mega auction, which means he would be playing a major role in the future layout of the PBKS side in the Indian Premier League.
Ponting on becoming PBKS coach
The Aussie legend Ponting thanked Punjab Kings for giving him this opportunity and also expressed his excitement to take up the new challenge. He said that they want to repay the fans for the support that they have been giving them over the years.
"I am grateful to Punjab Kings for presenting me with the opportunity to be the new Head Coach. I am excited to take up the new challenge. I had great conversations with the owners and the management about the way forward and was truly elated to see the alignment of our visions for the team. We all want to repay the fans who have stayed with the franchise over the years and we promise that they will see a much different Punjab Kings going forward," said Ricky Ponting.
