The controversy surrounding the captaincy of India's ODI team has been dominating the headlines for the last few days as Virat Kohli and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) go head-to-head. 33-year-old Kohli who relinquished his T20I captaincy after the T20 World Cup in UAE was sacked from the ODI captaincy by the BCCI as Rohit Sharma was appointed his successor.

Kohli who has been the epicenter of the controversy is reaching the boiling point with the BCCI. Kohli’s former coach Rajkumar Sharma has now jumped into the matter to have his say. Rajkumar has avoided speaking against the BCCI but has given his opinion about the fiasco.

“This is definitely shocking and this is news to me as well that Virat Kohli said something like this in the press conference. What comment should I give, about why it has happened and why such a thing should not have happened,” Rajkumar said while speaking to India News.

“I would not like to comment too much on this. I will only want to say that they are the authority and whatever decision they have taken, they would have taken it thoughtfully and my statement about this does not hold any significance, whether they have done right or wrong,” he added while avoiding comments on BCCI.

“This is something unusual I have heard, I didn’t see Virat’s press conference as well. This communication gap should not have happened. According to me, there should be transparency between them and I don’t know why this has happened or why such a communication gap was there,” Rajkumar added.

The controversial sacking in recent times has taken a different turn as there has been a difference between statements of Kohli and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. The Indian Test captain on Wednesday (December 15) answered questions regarding Rohit’s appointment as captain, while also pointing out a finger at BCCI and Ganguly. Kohli and company will next be in action on Boxing Day (December 26) against South Africa in Centurion.
