A clinical early strike proved enough for Morocco to secure a 1-0 victory against Scotland in Group C of the 2026 World Cup on Friday. The goal, scored just 71 seconds into the match, stands as the fastest of the tournament so far and handed the African side a vital three points.

Ismael Saibari was the hero for Morocco, producing a composed finish after linking up with Brahim Díaz before slotting the ball past Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn. The 25-year-old PSV Eindhoven forward, who is set to join Bayern Munich in a €55 million transfer, was named the official FIFA Man of the Match.

The player scored the fastest goal of the tournament so far and Morocco’s fastest-ever World Cup goal, netting after just 71-72 seconds. Saibari’s strike marked his second goal in two World Cup appearances, following his contribution in the 1-1 draw against Brazil. Morocco defended stoutly thereafter to repel Scotland’s pressure and maintain their strong position in the group standings.

The Moroccan star was highly influential, showing relentless energy, technical quality, and threat throughout. Morocco controlled large portions of the game, especially possession early on, and his early strike set the tone in a gritty, low-scoring affair where Scotland pushed later but couldn’t equalize, including denied penalty appeals. Morocco had limited shots on target overall, but Saibari accounted for strong contributions in attack.
