Having endured a disappointing end to their campaign, the LA Lakers have garnered attention related to how they will act during the offseason to curb all the frailties that led to their elimination this season. It goes without saying that the team needs a Center, who can defend as well as support Luka Doncic and LeBron James up front. As the Lakers' want is evident, the rumour mill is rife with names that the franchise can consider and may sign. Subsequently, another name has been added to the mix, and it is from the Toronto Raptors.

Lakers Projected to Target Jakob Poeltl
According to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, the Lakers are closely monitoring the situation of Jakob Poeltl. The 29-year-old can tick many boxes for the Lakers and strengthen the squad.
Scotto noted: "Poeltl is owed $19.5 million for the 2025-26 season and has a player option for the same figure for the 2026-27 season. Should Poeltl not get an extension done with Toronto, a team such as the Los Angeles Lakers-who are seeking an upgrade at centre, could have trade interest."
Poeltl wishes to stay with the Raptors, and by calling him the "backbone" of the franchise, the Team president has signaled that his stint with the franchise will continue. However, if extension talks fell through, Lakers can come into the picture.

Poeltl's Stats Back His Brilliance
Jakob Poeltl's stats from last season showcase his significant impact on the court. He averaged 14.5 points and 9.6 rebounds, demonstrating his ability to contribute to multiple facets of the game. Notably, his defensive prowess, particularly at the rim, makes him an attractive asset for a contender like the Lakers. His efficient scoring and defensive versatility would be valuable additions to their roster.
Jakob Poeltl was previously rumored to be a potential trade piece at last year's deadline, but the Raptors decided to hold onto him. The Lakers might now pursue him to bolster their frontcourt, particularly to support Anthony Davis, potentially offering a package of picks and role players. Toronto's offseason strategy will determine Poeltl's fate: if they commit to rebuilding, Poeltl might be traded to the Lakers or other teams, but if they aim to compete, he's likely to stay.
