Chennai Super Kings star all-rounder Rachin Ravindra opened up on his head injury he got in Pakistan after his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets in their tournament's opener clash at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Rachin got a head injury in Pakistan before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 while fielding in a tri-series clash against the hosts. While asked about his injury, the star all-rounder said that it was a freak accident and he also lauded New Zealand Cricket's support staff for his treatment. The young star who was awarded Player of the Tournament in the ICC Champions Trophy missed the initial matches of the tournament.
"It has been alright, it was a freak accident (getting hit on the head during the tri-series in Pakistan), I am grateful to the New Zealand staff. It did not have much turn but it was sticky, the lengths they bowled made it difficult for us" said Rachin during post-match conference.
Rachin who played an unbeaten match-winning 65-run knock in 45 balls praised MI bowlers for picking wickets and bowling at nice lengths. Rachin finished the clash with a six when CSK needed four runs in six balls.
"Mumbai made it difficult for us, bowled nice lengths and choked us a little in the middle but having power at the backend helped. We don't know what to expect (from the pitch). Rutu was amazing, he struck it at 200 without really trying" added Rachin
Chennai Super Kings will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 28 at the same venue. Both CSK and RCB have already won their first clash of the tournament. CSK last faced RCB in their do-or-die clash where Bengaluru based franchise defeated Chennai to seal their berth for the playoffs.
