Legendary player set to be in his first IPL auction.

For the first time in his career, legendary England pacer James Anderson has signed up for the Indian Premier League auction. The Test specialist has set his basic price at Rs 1.25 crore. He recently retired from International cricket after participating in the first Test match in the West Indies in July 2024.

Ben Stokes to miss auction

England Test captain Ben Stokes has withdrawn from the auction, threatening to be barred from the IPL auction the next season, even though Anderson has registered for it. According to the new regulations, an international player will not be permitted to participate in the mini-auction the following year if his name is not included in the mega-auction, unless the home board, in this case the ECB, states that Stokes is injured.

BCCI's rule of auction ban

Prior to the IPL 2025 season, the BCCI implemented a new rule that states that any player who registers for the player auction and, after being selected, withdraws from the competition before the season begins will be barred from both the tournament and the player auction for two seasons.

Many believe that because Harry Brook withdrew before the competition began, the regulation was introduced especially for the England players. To the annoyance of their respective teams, Phil Salt and Jos Buttler would depart before the IPL 2024 Playoffs began. 2025 is a busy year for England, and they have been making substantial preparations. Ben Stokes will captain the team in a home series against India and an away series against Australia in Test cricket.
